This program is a 300-hour advanced yoga teacher training that will certify students as 500-hour Tula Institute trained advanced Yoga Teachers in attainable and sustainable yoga practices, and qualify students for their Yoga Alliance RYT500. This training is perfect for teachers wishing to advance their teaching and students wanting to continue the journey to deepen their understanding of yoga. Applicants must have completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training and received their 200-hour certification before the start of this program.
The Tula Institute, advanced yoga teacher training, offers a focus on attainable and sustainable yoga practices to support teachers and students in incorporating viable yoga practices across their personal and professional life spans. Students will become fluent in understanding the body and mind, and using the 8 limbs of yoga to both experience and offer a state of balance and ease. The curriculum follows the teachings from chapter 2, the section on practices, of Patanjali’s Sutras, (Pada II – Sadhana pada).
This training will be offered in nine 30-hour modules over 18 months. Two of the modules will be extended 30-hour weekends (Friday – Monday), and seven modules will be two 15-hour weekends spaced two weeks apart. This pace allows the integration of teachings into your personal and professional lives between training weekends.
Understanding safe and effective alignment and sequencing is an inherent part of any YTT and will be progressively integrated throughout each training weekend.

Sustainable yogic self-care techniques for teachers and students, intelligent and safe sequencing, working with private clients, recognizing and defining your mission, the business of yoga.
Honoring the Student
Effective and affirming cuing, safe and appropriate assists, modifications to meet the unique physical body, honoring boundaries, trauma sensitivity.
Anatomy & Physiology
The musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, the respiratory system, the subtle energy body. Integrating knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the individual into asana, pranayama, and meditation practices.
Quiet Side Practices
Restorative yoga, yoga Nidra, introduction to sen yoga.
Removing the Obstacles
Exploration of Pada II of the sutras on the obstacles to freedom from suffering; Use of yogic techniques for balancing the mood and cultivating a sense of peace; Integrating and sequencing techniques for desired outcomes.
Chair yoga – postures using a chair as a prop, advancing the poses using a chair, sequencing a chair based asana practice.
Ayurveda & the 5 elements
Ayurveda – history & philosophy, Anatomy & physiology for Ayurveda, the dosha system, the 5 elements, balancing the 5 elements with yoga.
Asana across the Spectrum
Human growth and development, the evolution of yoga practices over the lifespan, special populations & adaptive yoga, teaching to multiple levels.
Postural alignment principles, the art of observation, observing the individual from the koshic perspective, observing the student in yoga practice to guide the teacher in teaching to the student that presents.
Between trainings, weekends, and modules, students will be given 3-4 hours of OM Work (homework) to support and deepen their learnings. Students will also be expected to participate in the Tula 300-hour YTT online forum to share conversations, and Q&A will occur. Upon completion of the training, students will receive their Tula Institute of Yoga 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Certification and will be eligible to register with the Yoga Alliance as an RYT500.

Katey Hawes, MS, PT, C-IAYT, E-RYT500, YACEP
Founder and owner of The Tula Institute of Yoga. Katey believes that the student teacher relationship is a collaborative one where the path of exploration is shared. She is committed to passing on information that she has learned from her many teachers, and supporting each student in integrating that information in a way that best resonates for them. Katey has a Masters of Science, Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and a Bachelors of Science, Physical Education / Sports Management from the State University of New York at Cortland College, Cortland, NY. She received her 200-hour Yoga Teacher certification from the Shala Institute of Yoga in Bridgton, ME and her Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga Certification from Integrative Yoga Therapy. She is an Experienced 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500), and a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Katey has studied Thai Yoga Bodywork with Shiva Shakti school of Yoga and Healing arts in Union, Maine, and Advanced Thai Yoga Medical Massage with the Thai Healing Arts Training Center in Westminster, Colorado.
Kat Larsen, C-IAYT, E-RYT200, YACEP
Kat is Graduate of the Iyengar Yoga Teacher training and is certified to teach Hatha, Vinyasa, Restorative, y4c (yoga for cancer), and LifeForce Yoga (Yoga to meet Mood). Kat finds great joy in teaching yoga and witnessing those on the path to balance, wellness, and authentic living. She is a Mentor and Faculty Assistant at the Life Force Healing Institute and is a C-IAYT (Certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists).
Sophia Maamouri BFA, LMT, CYT, Ayurveda Practitioner
Sophia is motivated by an interest in healing systems that take the complexity of the human beings into account. Sophia has a BFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art, she is a Licensed Massage Therapist and received her training from the Potomac Myotherapy Institute, she completed her Ayruvedic Practitioner training with the Kripalau School of Yoga and Ayurveda, and her Yoga Teacher Training with The Yoga Life Institute of New Hampshire.
Margo Rosingana, E-RYT500, YACEP
Margo feels drawn to learn and delve deep into the art of teaching restorative yoga, and then offer what she has learned to students and Yoga teachers alike. Margo received her 500-hour RYT status with Yoga Alliance after completing her training in alignment based Vinyasa flow with Shannon Paige, Chris Muchow, and Nancy Kate Williams. She has completed Level I and II Anjali Restorative Yoga Teacher Training, as well as Bhava Vinyasa Teacher Training. More recently, she has studied with Christina Sell, Susanna Harwood Rubin, and Judith Hanson Lasater.
